2010 American Hosta Convention activities

Congratulations to MTHS members who wond ribbons
at the American Hosta Society 2010 Hosta Show in Minneapolis.
Donna Priester won a red ribbon with a container of H. 'Lemon Frost'.
In Division I, Section II, Class 5B, Lee Greenburg won a blue ribbon with H. 'Sagae' and in Division I, Section I, Class 5B, a third place ribbon with H. 'Leading Lady.'
Steve Cunningham showed an open pollinated hosta and the entry won "Best Seedling" and was displayed on the Head Table. In this section, two leaves must be displayed. The petioles were dark red and the dark green leaves appeared to have a red blush.
Thirteen MTHS members attended the convention and enjoyed a variety of activities. The gardens ranged from small to large, and one included a state-of-the-art Koi pool, estimated to be 150,000 gallons in capacity. Vendors offered hostas, hosta related clothing, jewerly, books, and garden art. About 300 plants were auctioned during the convention, some being old varieties and others, species hostas donated from private collections. The program included botanical painting instruction, a retro fashion show and technical lectures on the genus hosta.
